January 9, 1998 From a reliable source I've heard that Jim Veltman of the NLL Ontario Raiders and Pat McCready of the Rochester Knighthawks have signed with the Brampton Excelciors Major team for the 98 summer season. March 10/98 A update on this story from Major Commissioner - Jim Brady Jim Veltman has indicated that he would be available this season to play for the Excelsiors and has been added to the protected list. Pat Mcready has signed with Brampton and is on their protected list. Troy Cordingley has been placed on the out of province list by Six Nations Chiefs. Rumors are that Casey Zaph of PETERBORO, Bob Fisher of BUFFALO, and Shaydon Santos of BROOKLIN are going out west also. Paul Gait will be playing in the east this year. Probably with Buffalo. ![]()

OLA commissioner Jim Brady said Buffalo Gamblers owner Joe Anderson is about to announce a new GM and head coach to replace Terry Sanderson, who left to take a similar position with the Brampton Excelsiors. The Gamblers are also looking to replace Brian Allen of St.Catharines, who stepped down as operations manager. The Gamblers will play out of Marine Midland Arena and are seeking approval to hold the 1998 Mann Cup final there. Brady said the Six Nations Chiefs are having difficulty organizing a team, but added they will move home games from Brantford Civic Centre back to Ohsweken. The Chiefs status will be determined by January 18 when teams must file their protected-players list.
More Rumours of the week December 18, 1997 Terry Sanderson was fired as Gamblers coach.(Personality indifferences with team owner Joe Anderson).Terry will be coaching Brampton in the senior league. Brian Allen (GM) Lincoln Fannell (President),and Don Jones (Vice Pres), resigned as a result of Terry's dismissal.THATS OFFICIAL! A number of players are in an uproar over the situation, indicating they wont be playing for the Gamblers next year. Update: Lincoln Fannell DID NOT resign from the Gamblers. He is still officially their President.Brian Allen(GM) was the only one that resigned. Joe Anderson apparently has made it clear that he is looking to recruit the top American box players to play on the team. If this happens, look for a new senior team in either St. Catharines or Hamilton. The OLA will certainly be making an issue of this as the Gamblers are still officially a St Catharines based team.
Rumours of the week December 10, 1997 Jim Brady, former coach of the Athletics (2 Minto Cups early '90s),and former GM of 97 Minto Cup Champs Whitby Warriors, has been offered Head Coaching job for the Burlington Jr A's. Update: Jim Brady is officially coaching Burlington Jr A.They will be a tough team to beat this year. Coaches and administrators of the former Niagara Falls Gamblers are in limbo. Team owner Joe "Smoking Joe" Anderson, has cancelled a number of meetings between the parties, sending instead his representative to stickhandle around Coach Terry Sanderson and GM Brian Allen's concerns. My Buffalo sources indicate that the Marine Midland Staff will administer the Gamblers including Les Wakelin (Bandit coach and Six Nation (Major) coach), as the new head coach. My sources are also close to Joe Anderson. John Tavares was also being courted by the Gamblers, but the major commissioner said that he would never allow the trade as it would upset the balance of the league.
Rumour Department December 4, 1997 From the rumour department this: A reliable source tells me that the Gamblers have made a deal to acquire Paul Gait. He played last year in 8 regular season games for the B.C. based North Shore Indians scoring 32 goals.
