Here are my predictions for the 3 OLA leagues.
Major : Niagara Falls is the class of the league.
Junior A : I gotta go with Whitby, coached by Jim Bishop, Orangeville
seems to be sinking.
Junior B East : Orillia, what else needs to be said.
Junior B West : It's a toss-up between Spartan & Six Nations.

Hi Glen
With the OLA playoffs under way, If you hear of a score, or attend a
playoff game; Would you please send the result to me at
gdisme@freenet.toronto.on.ca
Most happily. Good chance I'll be going to the next 2 Six Nations
Arrows games ... tonight and Wednesday. Was at the 14-7 St. Kitts
win on Friday night .. but Peter had the Friday night scores.
You know from experience how hard it
is get OLA info.
yowsa ..
I'm going to keep my page going at least to the end
of this season.
I add a personal touch. I let the fans have their say.
I'll be visiting your site.
However, I need raw info & that's where the official page has the upper
hand. But; their page is a no go on the week-end. The OLA hotline
is spotty at best. On Fri night Peter Flook started out say
results
for Fri July 7 .. He seemed to slur his words .. I think he was
drunk or at least had enjoyed a few cocktails. I know I had .. :)
On the Fri night OLA hotline Peter had at least 2 scores wrong which I
have confirmed
This is the sad truth of lacrosse in Ontario. I don't exactly know
why everything gets so fouled up along the way .. sheer imcompetence
I imagine ... but this year statistically has been like all the
others. Last time I checked at least, take a look at how Peter
(or whoever..) tries to balance the goals for and against at the end of
the season. They were out by the second week. Also, some of those
home and road records are wrong.
I don't mean to be persnickity about these things but stats should be
100% accurate or else there is no point keeping them.
Oh well. Playoffs abound. I think Six Nations can take Orangeville
in a semi if it comes to that. Against Whitby, I wouldn't think they
have much hope. In their favour is that they are very very
enthusistic.
We shall see.

Are you nuts? Have you ever played a game at the end of a season
against the team you KNEW you'd see in the finals
(or semis in this case).
Don't forget the fact that they've already split two with the home team
winning all four. Between the pride factor and all the psychological
effects of the result, I'd be surprised if the guys playing think that.
It may not change the standings but I'd bet a paycheck it'll be some
damn good lacrosse.
REBUTTALS WELCOME (ha-ha)

PS: Do you or did you play up there? If so where?

Hi Joe,
Thanks for your interest.
Point #1 : How much is your paycheck? :)
Point #2 : My guess is that your responding to my editors note that
the Major game .. Thu July 31 Niagara at Brampton is a nothing game.
In answer to your question I guess your
wondering what my back ground is with the game.
Joe: I discovered lacrosse in Brampton as a lad of about 13. Around 1960.
I played house bantam in Brampton in my first year. All Star Midget in
my 2cd. I loved playing out of town.
In 1966 I played Jr B. for the Rexdale Warriors. Two of the guys on
that year's team went on to play pro with a few of the experimental
leagues. One guy on that team < Steve Durbano > went on to a NHL career.
My Guess is that your a Brampton fan. Am I right ?

Dear Glen
Ah-hah! You did play! Don't dare try to deny that the one thing
lacrosse players share is a competitive spirit for the game- anytime,
anywhere, anyway. I know there's at least one game you played that
everyone but the two teams playing it thought it wasn't too important.
How about the the backyard World Championship? Good lacrosse has only
two requirements, talent and a place to play. Right?
Anyway, my paycheck doesn't have any commas in it.......YET. And no,
I'm not a Brampton fan just a lacrosse fan. Maybe now is the worst time
to admit it but if anything I'm a Peterborough fan. Like you I loved
playing out of town and I got my first taste of Canadian lacrosse in
Peterborough. I played there after my first year of box lacrosse.
Until then it was all field.
It's a States thing....eh?
Take it easy

PPS: :) is a smily.

Glad to hear Nations came through with the sweep . I was looking forward
to seeing them play Whitby, but Peterborough seems to have different
ideas about that . They must be getting great goaltending and / or
playing great defense to keep the scores so low vs that Whitby offense.

(sung to the tune "The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald"...)
The legend lives on from the BunnyBarn on down
Of a lacrosse team too vicious and burly
The team, it is said, went from champions to dead
Why the hell did they hire Steve Churley?
He took a Founders Cup team with Minto Cup dreams
And won maybe five games in two seasons
In Scarborough they were sad, said "We can't be that bad"
But behind the Saints' bench lurked the reason
They'd soon had enough of his asinine stuff
Starting fourteen-year-olds regularly
They gave him the gas, yes they fired his ass
And collapsed back down to Junior 'B'
Up in Goontown those days things were going okay
The Ontario banner was flying
They were an ugly bunch of thugs playing like they were on drugs
But for the Minto out west they were vying
It didn't go well, they got beaten to hell
By the New Westminster Salmonbellies
As an alternate plan they beat up on some fans
Which in Goontown will do just as well-y
Next year they got a good start, thought they were missing a part
And went looking for someone to coach 'em
It's hindsight to say, but I'll bet they'd have said "nay"
If they knew how bad Churley would poach 'em
See, he'd slithered away up to Goontown one day
Where he hoped no one knew of his failures
When he said "Here we go, we're already five-and-oh"
Came the wreck of the Brampton Excelsiors
The team wasn't bad but Lord, they'd been had
It was nothing but fighting and folly
But what can you say, when game after game
They kept dressing that shithead McCauley
They went a bit mad when the season went bad
They went over the glass in St. Catharines
Someone called them a name, they bailed out on a game
And a Kitch-Water crowd went home laughing
Does anyone know where the love of God goes
When Sarnia's clearing your table
In what the Stix hotline claims was a penalty-filled game
With no other details avail'ble
The legend lives on from Orangeville on down
Of a lacrosse team too vicious and burly
The Excelsiors, 'tis said, went from champions to dead
Why the hell did they hire Steve Churley?
And time after time, we're left asking the Stix line
Why the hell did they hire Steve Churley?

Glen-
Thanks for your scores ... if it was not for your page, I wouldn't know
which team won the July 31 game between Whitby and Peterborough. It seems
that the Official OLA page keeps regular business hours.... no wonder
lacrosse gets no respect. The Standard newspaper here in St. Catharines
gives lacrosse good coverage .. not great, but passable .. however they
can't give out scores when they do not get them from the league office ..
once St. Catharines was beaten by Peterborough .... no Junior A coverage
gets into the paper. Lacrosse has to start getting itself together ... For
example the date of the first playoff game between St. Cath. and Pete. was
set a day before it was played ... only 50 people showed up to the game...
how the heck is promotion possible when dates are so tight, that you can
not even advertise?
Another thing that bugs me, is the fact so many Junior B players are not
playing up to tjeir calibre in Junior A. The OLA has to ensure that Junior
A clubs can access the very best players. Perhaps with the arrival of the
National Lacrosse League, the players themselves will want to play where
their level is.It is my humble opinion, that Lacrosse today is still where
it was 20 years ago, a relativelly unkown sport, and like a cult, kept to
itself.

Being a long time supporter of the O.L.A Iam looking forward to a real
battle on the hands of the Warriors. The west by all means seem to have
the upper hand size, and experience and have showen that they have the
scoring depth. With Disher in net he has alot to prove to Ont.He is the
best Goalie in the League and will be playing in his back yard all his
friends will be there and his family to give that support.Furthermore
what about the rest of the team. Being here last year and showed
Orangeville they can play with the best of them. The key to any playoffs
is the strengh of the net.Defence is also another factor.Lakers have
great size and skill in the back, so they appear on paper to have the
advantage there. The warriors have good shoots on the point. But sure to
be pushed around alot. And to add to the Lakers Arsonal is one of the
most offensive players in the league Nick Trudeau His stats speak for
themself. So if these words hold true the only diaster that can happen

Glen:
What a great web sight-I only wish I had discovered it sooner. I
live just outside of Bolton, ON and lacrosse coverage is non-existent
here. A friend in my home town of Orillia called last Thursday to inform
me the Hammond Kings were on the verge of another provincial
championship. I'm ashamed to admit that it was the first lacrosse game
I've attended in three years. I really got the fever again and went to
Mimico yesterday to see a pretty decent game between Orillia and
Edmonton. I can't wait for tonight's game between Orillia and Mimico. As
a longtime player and fan of lacrosse, I can empathize with your
frustration in dealing with the OLA for stats. It is easier to obtain
cricket scores than lacrosse
scores, and it's easy for a longtime player/fan to drift away from the
game; this is not a coincidence. More than any other sport, lacrosse
sells itself when people attend a game. Contrary to what Mr. Kinsella
would have us believe, if you build it people will not come. If you
build it, and publicize it people will come, and they will return if
they know when and where. When they can't come, they would love to know
what they missed. In fairness to the OLA, I didn't know of their web
sight until last week, and some of the information I 'm after is
contained therein, but it was lacking and slow with the results. I
checked this morning and found out last night's Founder's Cup results.
That is the way it should be and you are to be commended for running a
superior sight, but it's pretty sad when the unofficial OLA sight is
much more informative and faster than the official sight. Not to take
anything away from you, but that's pretty sad don't you think? I'm truly
sorry that I didn't discover this sight and rediscover lacrosse until so
late in the season, but I'm going to get to as many games as possible.
That Major series (thanks for the game report) sounds like a dandy and
I'm not far from Brampton, so I'll take in at least one of those and am
going to trek to Whitby to see my alumnus vie for another Minto Cup.
I've already visited your sight a number of times in the past few days
and I'm sure I will be a regular until the end of the season. Thanks a
million, Glen.

Subject: web page and the great showing that Six Nations has made
once again this year
Date: Mon, 25 Aug
I find your web page very helpful and interesting. I am very proud of
the Lacrosse heritage in my community. I'm from Six Nations. It was
great to see that Six Nations and Six Nations players have gone so far
in the post-season.
At the same time, I was apprehensive about the playoffs (because more
than ever, this is the time when our teams and players have to combat so
much blantant racism from other teams, their fans, referees and even the
lacrosse association.
I guess some teams need that extra weapon (discrimination) to defeat our
players. It is sad to know that our youth must be faced with this
reality as part of their "lacrosse maturity". But this year especially,
we can be proud of how the game has been honoured in our community. Our
legacy with lacrosse has shone through on many occasions over the years,
(despite the outlawing of our players in the earlier years--they were
banned for being "professionals") with a Minto Cup, three Mann Cups,
last year's President's Cup, Midget Siver and Juvenile Gold at the
Indigenous Games in Victoria this year, not to mention all of the
individual merits accumulated by people like Gaylord Powless, Cammy
Bomberry and Pete Skye (to name only a few of hundreds).
If you haven't already seen it, I recommend that you see the movie, "The
Creator's Game". It was a very respectful and creative way of honouring
the origin of the sport of lacrosse as well as our community.

Both teams played exceptionally well tonite, but Niagara Falls seemed to
want it more.It was probably the best Lacrosse game the Niagara Region

Another good story but not all true
If Maynard was such a good defender for the warriors How come Nick
Trudeau had 39 points in the series. And it is sad when people boo
at the most valueable player because they know Nick was and should have
got the award.I dont know who picks this award but just another feather
for Bishop And whitby .
I think that Burnaby lost the series because they were a weaker team
not only in talent but in heart. And if it was not for Nick on the team
we would not have been entertained at all . So on that note Nicks Stats
spoke for him when awards would not. Thanks for your web to vent my

Hey Glen:
What's happening out that way?? I guess the Mann Cup is the only thing
going on right now. Things are starting to wind down.
Thats good cause I need a break....
I've had loads of positive feed back about your and my web sites. People
are really happy with the work you and I are doing. I'm sure glad you
kept your site going as we would have been sh*t out of luck on many
occasions this season.
Do you ever hear from Jeff??
DF
Hi Daryl,
I think the Gamblers are resigned to a Mann Cup loss being down
3-1 with 3 games still possible.
On the Gamblers page there is no official coverage or comments on how
the Mann Cup is progressing. The only mention of the series is in Gamblers
Gab where the fans voice opinion.
On the positive feed-back thing : I too get posts of appreciation. Some
of them I put up in the area known as < The fans speak out >. I was hoping
the comments would be more inregards to the game and players but it turned
into a thanks Glen "love in".
I think when I changed my main page colours to white & black script things
picked up. Modestly, I did a reasonable job for a guy who started from
scratch May 9. Your tip .. put pre at the front & pre at the back got me
on my way :) I only learned what I had to since the page is all script.
I never learned graphics & I'd loved to have had some sound. Missed out
on the crawler too.
As for Jeff, he just dropped from site. When the 97 season started & we
had 3 pages going, Mine yours & Jeff's; with the OLA's in the works,
Jeff packed it in. I had a mention to his page & he asked me, practically
begged me to remove the mention which I did.
I received a humours bit from an annonoymous source called (The Wreck of
Brampton Excelsiors) that I put up. I believe it came from Jeff.
I'll be keeping an eye on the new NILL & their new team in Hamilton
with the proposed name Ontario Raiders.
Well, That's my view from the East. I'm thinking the Mann Cup will
all be over on Sunday.
Note: Because the cup is played in the west with a late finish time
here in the East .. result it is passed the eastern papers press time
so no Mann Cup coverage at all here. I think your the only link. :)
Now I'm thinking column #8
